On the morning of May 2, 2018, Dan Leake, 64, and his wife Wilhelmina, 62, were found shot to death in the bedroom of their Capitol Heights home on Omaha Street. Their adult son discovered the couple and alerted authorities; Prince George’s County police arrived around 3:05 a.m. and pronounced both victims dead at the scene after finding multiple gunshot wounds.

Dan Leake had recently retired as a foreman mechanic with the District of Columbia Fire and EMS service and was known locally as a helpful neighbor and a drummer who volunteered with a church music program. Wilhelmina was finishing a career as a federal worker. Neighbors described them as pillars of the community.

Investigators say they do not believe the killings were a random act of violence, but no arrests or publicly identified suspects have been announced and no motive has been disclosed. If anyone knew the Leakes or has information about that night, please share what you know with Prince George’s County police.
