Mujahid Ramzziddin was a 51-year-old Prince George’s County Police corporal and 14-year department veteran. On Wednesday, February 21, 2018, he was off duty at his home in Brandywine, Maryland, when a female neighbor asked for help during a domestic dispute. The neighbor’s estranged husband, 37-year-old Glenn Tyndell, was reportedly armed with a shotgun and threatening her.
Ramzziddin intervened and placed himself between the woman and Tyndell. During the confrontation Tyndell opened fire, fatally wounding Ramzziddin, then took the officer’s service weapon and fled. A multi-agency manhunt ended about 10 miles away when responding officers located Tyndell; he fired at them and was shot and killed by officers. Reports note Tyndell had three open assault warrants and a history of domestic incidents.
Ramzziddin, a former U.S. Marine and recipient of the department’s Medal of Valor, was posthumously promoted to sergeant. Anyone who knew Ramzziddin or who has information about the incident is asked to come forward.
