On the morning of Wednesday, October 18, 2017, 34-year-old Jose Oscar Hidalgo Romero, a granite polisher from El Salvador, was killed in a workplace shooting at Advanced Granite Solutions in the Emmorton Business Park in Edgewood, Maryland. The gunman gathered coworkers before opening fire; two other employees were also killed and two additional coworkers were wounded. The shooter fled the scene and was later arrested in Delaware after being accused of a separate shooting there.
Romero’s brother said he had been fearful of the coworker who carried out the attack and had complained to the company owner about that man’s aggressive behavior, including punching people and starting fights. Romero had been looking for new employment for several weeks because of those concerns. He was remembered as humble, giving, and active in his church, working in Maryland to support his wife and children back in El Salvador.
If anyone knew Romero, his work situation, or witnessed the events at Advanced Granite Solutions that morning, please share information that could help fill gaps in the timeline.
