Tyrek Walker was 18 when he was shot and killed in the early hours of July 5, 2017, in Suitland, Maryland. He had been visiting a friend at an apartment complex on the 2500 block of Darel Drive and was gunned down in front of the building at about 1:30 a.m., dying at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
The motive for the killing remains unclear. The Prince George’s County Police Department investigated, but no arrests have been announced. The shooting reopened wounds for the family: Tyrek’s brother, Charles, had been murdered four years earlier. Neighbors and others raised questions about security at the apartment complex, and authorities offered up to a $25,000 reward for tips leading to an arrest and indictment.
Anyone who knew Tyrek or who has information about the July 5, 2017 shooting is urged to come forward.
