On the late afternoon of May 18, 2017, 24-year-old Tavon Todd was shot at in the parking lot of a business in the 6300 block of Allentown Road in Temple Hills, Maryland. Surveillance video shows another 24-year-old man, Bernard Gibson III of Temple Hills, firing shots at Todd’s vehicle as Todd attempted to drive away. A pursuit followed, ending in the 5400 block of Temple Hills Road when Todd’s car crashed into a county school bus. Emergency responders arrived shortly before 5:00 p.m.; Todd, the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no students on the bus at the time.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later ruled Todd’s death a homicide, caused by multiple injuries from the crash that occurred while he was fleeing gunfire. On June 2, 2017, Gibson was arrested and charged with attempted murder; after the medical examiner’s ruling a Prince George’s County grand jury indicted him for murder and he was held without bond.
Did anyone in the Temple Hills area witness the parking lot shooting or the subsequent chase and crash?
