Amaru Amir Santos Johnson was 19 when he was killed in the early hours of April 29, 2017. The shooting began shortly after midnight in the parking lot of a townhouse complex on Kitchen House Way in Germantown, Maryland, when two men allegedly committed an armed robbery and held two people at gunpoint. The robbery victims fled to a nearby home and called for help. Amaru and two others went to assist and were outside the residence when the suspects returned.
One of the suspects opened fire, wounding a person in the leg; Amaru and another person ran inside, but the gunman followed and continued shooting. Four people in all were struck; all were taken to hospitals and Amaru later died of gunshot wounds, while the other three sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Montgomery County Police identified Eric Anthony Lee and Furl John Williams as the primary suspects; both were arrested and charged.
Did anyone know Amaru or have information about that night that could help clarify what happened?
