On the night of April 6, 2017, 51-year-old Jan Cotto was shot while walking near her home on Zelma Avenue in Capitol Heights, Maryland. She was believed to be heading to a Metro station to commute to work at about 11:00 p.m. First responders found her outside with gunshot wounds; she was taken to a nearby hospital and died shortly afterward.
Investigators canvassed the neighborhood and pursued a preliminary theory that the shooting resulted from an attempted robbery. A reward was offered for information. Authorities later arrested 30-year-old Christopher Carl Green, who had no fixed address and was described as an acquaintance of Cotto. He was charged with first- and second-degree murder and other related counts and held in custody on no-bond status.
If anyone knew Jan Cotto, her movements that night, or has information about Christopher Carl Green’s acquaintance with her, please share what you know.
