Kaiyon Stanfield was 20 when he was shot on December 18, 2016, after arranging to sell a quarter-pound of marijuana in the 9400 block of Woodsong Court in Laurel. He and his 21-year-old cousin, Khalil Stanfield, had driven to meet two buyers who got into the back seat. After a discussion about price and sampling, the meeting turned violent. Kaiyon was struck first in the head and then in the neck and back; Khalil was also shot in the neck and back but escaped and sought help at a nearby home.
Emergency responders found Kaiyon breathing in the front passenger seat; he was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore and died five days later. Khalil survived and was treated and released. Investigators identified and arrested Davon Philip Jones and Derrick Charles Johnson; victims and home security footage linked the men to the rental car and the back-seat shooters. Jones and Johnson were later convicted on charges connected to the attack, and the court characterized Kaiyon’s killing as a cold-blooded, calculated execution.
If anyone knew Kaiyon, Khalil, or had information about the meeting on Woodsong Court that afternoon, please share what you know.
