On the evening of Monday, October 24, 2016, 23-year-old Ronald Michael Lone III was shot and killed on the back deck of his home on Muncaster Mill Road in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Emergency responders arrived after a 9:58 p.m. call for a shooting; Lone was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators described the incident as a home invasion by two males in dark clothing with faces obscured who entered through an unlocked rear door. Several people were in the house; they were not physically harmed. A relative said Lone was coming to the aid of his 18-year-old brother, who had been struck with a gun during the confrontation. Police determined the attack was tied to a marijuana growing operation inside the residence and believe theft of the marijuana was the motive.
A witness present during the incident identified one suspect as a former Magruder High School student; with help from the school resource officer that person was identified as 20-year-old Mohammed Sirleaf. A second person, 19-year-old Timario Makaveli Gregg, was also implicated. Both were arrested on November 16, 2016; Sirleaf was charged with first-degree murder, armed robbery and related conspiracies, and Gregg was charged with possession of a firearm by a minor. Both were held without bond following arrest.
Did anyone in the Gaithersburg area recognize these suspects or have information about the grow operation at the home?
