On the morning of July 20, 2016, 68-year-old Alonzo Jackson stopped at a BP on the 4900 block of Marlboro Pike in Capitol Heights, Maryland, to refuel his 2015 black Dodge Charger before a doctor’s appointment. While he was pumping gas a man approached and the encounter ended in gunfire. Jackson was shot, taken to a nearby hospital, and died several hours later. The assailant stole his car; the Dodge Charger was later recovered abandoned and set on fire.

Jackson was a Marine veteran, a recently retired Safeway employee, a devoted husband and father of three, and was remembered by neighbors for his generosity and care for his home and car. Prince George’s County police released surveillance video and offered a reward up to $25,000. A tip led investigators to a person of interest and police later arrested 20-year-old Demarko Wheeler of Southeast Washington; he was taken into custody in the District and faced extradition and charges including first- and second-degree murder.

Did anyone in the area see the Charger or notice suspicious activity at the BP that morning?
