On the night of August 21, 2015, 17-year-old Jajuan Mcrae was found outside on Rockport Lane in Glenn Dale, Maryland, suffering from gunshot wounds after a welfare check at about 9:55 p.m. He was taken to a nearby hospital but died shortly after arriving.

Investigators say an ongoing dispute between Mcrae and another 17-year-old, Chey Markland Jarrett Jr., escalated into a physical altercation that evening and ended with Mcrae being shot. Authorities issued an arrest warrant charging Jarrett as an adult with first- and second-degree murder; he was located and taken into custody and held without bond.
