Brandon Thomas Brown, 22, was shot and killed while working as the driver of the Big Daddy Ice Cream truck in Frederick, Maryland, on the evening of Saturday, June 13, 2015. The shooting occurred on the 400 block of Vermont Court around 5:12 p.m.; a man approached Brown as he stepped out of the truck and fired a single shot into his chest. First responders pronounced Brown dead at the scene.
Frederick Police identified a suspect within hours. In the early morning of June 14, officers and the Maryland State Police Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 27-year-old Larnell Tyran Lyles at a Walkersville residence. He was charged with first-degree murder and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony. Defense attorneys later said the shooting grew out of a months-long dispute over a purported $20 debt and described the encounter as self-defense, while a witness who was with Brown said there was no argument before Lyles produced a revolver and fired.
If anyone in Lucas Village that evening saw something not yet reported or knew either man, please share information that could clarify what happened.
