On the evening of Tuesday, May 12, 2015, Anthony Donnell Minick, 22, was shot and killed in the 3400 block of Sudlersville South in Laurel. Officers found Minick with gunshot wounds about 8:26 p.m.; he was taken to Laurel Regional Hospital and pronounced dead.

Investigators say the shooting grew out of a domestic dispute during a child custody visit. Three adult family members had driven to Laurel so Tyrik Zachary Smith could see his child: Zelina Sharrieff Smith, her 23-year-old brother Daniel Xavier Stephens, and her 25-year-old son Tyrik Smith. A physical altercation reportedly broke out between Tyrik Smith and Minick, and Daniel Stephens allegedly produced a handgun and shot Minick. A juvenile was also present.

The vehicle fled the scene but was stopped within an hour; Zelina Smith and the juvenile were taken into custody. Stephens was arrested the next morning during a traffic stop and Tyrik Smith was arrested later that day in Silver Spring. Stephens and Tyrik Smith face murder, assault, conspiracy and weapons charges; Zelina Smith faces accessory after the fact and a firearms charge.
