On the afternoon of Thursday, March 12, 2015, 24-year-old Dayonte Matthew Shannon was fatally shot in Forestville, Maryland. The shooting occurred about 3:50 p.m. in the 6500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue; Prince George’s County Police found Shannon with a gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Shannon was from Capitol Heights.

Investigators say a dispute between Shannon and an acquaintance escalated to gunfire. The following day police arrested 26-year-old Daveon Lamar Ward of Forestville; he was taken into custody in Southeast Washington and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Shannon’s death.
