Three-year-old Laila Ann Miller was killed on Saturday, August 16, 2014, in Fort Washington, Maryland. Her father, Frederick R. Miller, 38, arrived at the home where Laila lived with her maternal grandfather and great-grandmother, shot both relatives and then took Laila. A neighbor’s surveillance video shows Miller carrying his daughter to his car before leading police on a six-minute pursuit.

The chase ended on Branch Avenue after a wheel fell off Miller’s vehicle and a shootout followed between Miller and six officers. Both Miller and Laila were found inside the car; Miller died at the scene. An autopsy found Laila had been shot at close range with a .38 Special revolver and her throat had been slit. Bullet fragments did not match the officers’ ammunition, and police concluded Frederick Miller was solely responsible. Reports cite a contested custody fight and Miller’s mental health as contributing factors.

If anyone knew Laila or has information about what led up to that day, please share any details that might help complete the timeline.
