Amos Milburn Jones, 54, was killed in Suitland, Maryland after a verbal exchange escalated into a stabbing on the early morning of July 22, 2014. Police found Jones deceased near a liquor store at about 1:45 a.m. and arrested six people within eight hours. Those charged with first-degree murder were 18-year-old Jose Eduardo Menjibar-Alaman, 20-year-old Oscar Alberto Parada, 23-year-old Jose Irving Guzman Dominquez, 18-year-old Jose Martinez Serrano, 18-year-old Almicah Sergovir and 17-year-old Katherine Abigial Lopez; Lopez was charged as an adult and was from Las Vegas while the others lived in Suitland and Temple Hills.
Investigators said the fight may have begun after a comment Jones made to Lopez. During questioning, each suspect admitted to different levels of involvement. Two of the suspects were believed to have ties to MS-13, but law enforcement did not classify the killing as gang-related. Jones was remembered by family and friends as a loving father who liked fishing, basketball and boxing and who had served briefly in the Army.
If anyone knew Amos or saw activity near the liquor store around 1:45 a.m. on July 22, 2014, please come forward with information.
