On May 30, 2014, 20-year-old Mark Anthony Blocker was shot and killed by Prince George’s County officers after a confrontation outside his apartment complex on Curtis Drive in Suitland. A neighbor had called 911 about what appeared to be a military-style long gun in Blocker’s hands during a dispute with his brother at about 2:15 a.m. Officers arrived to find the two men arguing and ordered Blocker to drop the weapon; police say he did not comply.

Two officers fired, striking Blocker; authorities later reported both the long gun and a handgun found at the scene were pellet guns. Blocker’s brother was uninjured and was not charged. The two officers — one with 13 years on the force and one with five — were placed on routine paid administrative leave while the shooting was investigated.

Key unanswered details include precisely what happened in the seconds before the shots were fired and how the pellet guns were perceived by responding officers. Did anyone see or hear that confrontation outside Curtis Drive that night who can shed light on those final moments?
