On January 1, 2014, 28-year-old Vondrell Lemar Smith was shot during an altercation at a residence in New Carrollton, Maryland. He was taken to a local hospital but died shortly after arrival.

Police identified two suspects, 26-year-old Lakeisha Colena Evans and 28-year-old Adrienne Jacobe Bell. Both women had been at the residence where the confrontation occurred, fled after the shooting, and were located and arrested on January 9, 2014, at a family member’s home in Laurel.
