On December 14, 2011, officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department responded to a Valley Park Road home in the Capitol Heights area near Seat Pleasant after a call reported a man threatening suicide. They encountered 43-year-old James Henry Peoples, who emerged from the residence armed with a handgun. Officers say they issued commands to drop the weapon; when he did not comply, several officers fired and Mr. Peoples was fatally wounded.
The department identified five officers involved: Corporal Dwayne Smith, Officer First Class Wesley Hamilton, and Officers Sean Miller, Jennifer Pastorek, and Timothy Hancock. All five were placed on administrative leave while an investigation was opened.
Are there details from that day or witnesses in the Capitol Heights/Seat Pleasant area who can shed light on what happened?
