On the night of May 30, 2011, in Capitol Heights, Maryland, 28-year-old Anthony Stevens McKelvin of Suitland and his 24-year-old cousin Sean O’Neil Ellis of District Heights were found dead inside a vehicle on Rollins Avenue, each having sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators reported the bodies had been doused with bleach and gasoline in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence, and the motive was determined to be robbery.

Authorities identified Brian Mayhew and Kenan A. Myers as suspects. A key witness, Nicoh Mayhew, Brian Mayhew’s uncle, was murdered in December 2012 shortly before he was due to testify; prosecutors later asserted Brian Mayhew had ordered that killing from jail. In February 2014 a Prince George’s County jury found Brian Mayhew guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of McKelvin and Ellis and he was sentenced. Kenan A. Myers was tried as an accomplice but was acquitted.
