Therin Almandus Martin, 39, was shot in Temple Hills, Maryland, on the afternoon of Friday, April 29, 2011, at approximately 3:27 p.m. The shooting occurred in the 3200 block of Branch Avenue. Emergency services responded, but Martin died of his injuries; the Prince George’s County Police Department ruled the death a homicide and opened an investigation.

Reports note a discrepancy in dates: an obituary gives his date of death as April 19, 2011, while law enforcement and a contemporary blog post cite the April 29 shooting. Martin was a Washington, D.C. resident and was remembered in his obituary as a husband, father to eight children, grandfather, son, and brother. Funeral services were held May 12, 2011, at Peace Baptist Church and he was buried at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. No suspects or arrests have been publicly identified and no motive has been released.
