Nanette Krentel, a 49-year-old woman from Lacombe, Louisiana, was found dead in the charred remains of her home on July 14, 2017. Although the house fire initially suggested she died in the blaze, the coroner determined she had a gunshot wound to the head and that she was killed before the fire was set. The autopsy found no soot in her lungs, and investigators say accelerants were used to fuel the fire; the home’s surveillance system and DVR were also doused and destroyed.

Suspicion fell on people close to Nanette. Her husband, Steve Krentel, the local fire chief, had been having marital problems with her and was publicly described as cooperative with investigators. Bryan Krentel, Steve’s brother, had reportedly threatened Nanette and was investigated; authorities later said he had an alibi, though reports noted his GPS ankle monitor had been deactivated. In the months before her death Nanette told family and friends she felt followed and photographed a man on her property she found creepy. No arrests have been announced and the murder remains unsolved.

If anyone knew Nanette, saw suspicious activity near her home in the weeks before July 14, 2017, or has information about the threats she reported, please come forward.
