A long-running neighborhood feud in Brandywine, Maryland ended in a deadly confrontation on May 2, 2010. Robert Darryl Mitchell Sr., 53, was shot twice while seated in his car in the driveway of his Charm Court home; one bullet struck his temple and another his leg. The shooting followed years of escalating disputes between the Mitchells and their across-the-street neighbor, Ronald Lee Ragland Sr., over issues including children playing near property lines and alleged vandalism.

On the day of the killing, Robert Sr. and his 18-year-old son were preparing to leave when Ragland called the younger man into the street, shot him in the hip, then shot Robert Sr. A family friend witnessed the shooting and called 911. Ragland was arrested at the scene; he later claimed self-defense and attempted to place an inoperable handgun on the deceased, but that account was contradicted by the surviving son and other evidence. A jury convicted Ragland in March 2013 on charges including second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

Did anyone in the neighborhood know about the disputes between the families or notice tensions before May 2010?
