Robert L. Anderson Jr., known to family as Whoodie, was a 20-year-old from Landover, Maryland, who was killed on April 10, 2010. The shooting occurred on East Marshall Place after a neighborhood dispute escalated. Court records describe Jeremiah Antoine Sweeney confronting neighbor Eric McDonald about marijuana he believed had been stolen, walking away, then returning and announcing he had a gun. Witnesses say Sweeney fired once into the air and then several more shots toward McDonald and others; Anderson was struck in the back of the head and collapsed. Neighbors rendered aid as Sweeney reportedly paced, got into a red Cadillac, and left the scene.
Sweeney was arrested and prosecuted; a jury convicted him of second-degree murder and related firearm and attempted-murder offenses, and he received two consecutive life sentences plus an additional term of years. A central dispute at trial concerned whether Sweeney could have fired the fatal shot from the position and distance described, and deliberations later were affected by juror misconduct when one juror visited the scene on his own and discussed that visit with others before being dismissed. The case has since produced multiple appeals and federal litigation.
Did anyone in the neighborhood know Robert or witness the confrontation on East Marshall Place?
