On June 9, 2007, 36-year-old Eric Girard Jones was shot and killed on Silver Hill Road in Suitland, Maryland. Multiple individuals approached Jones during the afternoon and opened fire; he died at the scene. The shooting happened in daylight and alarmed the local community.
Prince George’s County Police opened an intensive investigation. Early progress was slowed by a lack of immediate leads and some witnesses’ reluctance to come forward, but detectives continued developing the case. Investigators ultimately identified and arrested several suspects who were charged with first-degree murder and other offenses. Trials followed, with prosecutors relying on eyewitness testimony and forensic evidence; the defendants were convicted.
