In the early morning hours of December 22, 2006, 44-year-old Tony Cornelius Best, a man of no fixed address, was found dead on the shoulder of the Capital Beltway near Indian Head Highway in Prince George’s County, Maryland. He had been fatally shot. A road worker in the area heard gunshots, then saw a four-door silver vehicle flee south. The witness said Best’s body was pushed from the car just before it sped away.
Prince George’s County police identified Best and opened a homicide investigation. In the years since, there have been no public announcements of arrests or named suspects, and few if any new details have been released. The circumstances that led to Best being in that vehicle and the identity of whoever shot him remain unknown.
If anyone remembers activity on the Beltway near Indian Head Highway around dawn on December 22, 2006, or saw a silver four-door car leaving the scene, please share what was seen with investigators.
