On the evening of April 19, 2006, 59-year-old Patricia Caniglia was fatally shot in her Fort Washington home on Piscataway Drive during what investigators described as a home invasion robbery. Patricia was found in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the head. Her son Antonio, who was in the basement, heard a commotion, armed himself with a shotgun and confronted an intruder upstairs; Antonio shot and killed the intruder, later identified as 23-year-old Jeffrey M. Gilbert of Landover. Antonio was not charged in Gilbert’s death.
Prince George’s County police later arrested two other suspects believed to be connected: 20-year-old Cindi R. Rush of Baltimore and 23-year-old Larry Martin Ellis Jr. of Clinton. Authorities alleged Rush and Ellis had driven Gilbert to the Caniglia residence and dropped him off, and that Rush, a former employee of the family’s restaurant and one-time girlfriend of Antonio, had knowledge that large sums of money were kept in the home. Rush’s statements to police were contested in a pre-trial suppression fight.
Did anyone in the Fort Washington or Landover area at the time see a vehicle matching that description near Piscataway Drive on April 19, 2006?
