Kanu Patel was 28 and working the night shift at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Hanover, Maryland when he was killed in the early morning hours of October 15, 1998. The attack was a robbery in which Kanu and his cousin Mukesh Patel were fatally shot; a third employee was also targeted but survived. Reports say racial slurs were used during the crime, and authorities identified three suspects after an investigation that was advanced by a tip.
Evidence presented in the legal process pointed to one man as the ringleader and the shooter. That man was convicted of killing Kanu and Mukesh and received two consecutive life terms without parole. One accused was awaiting trial and a cooperating defendant also faced charges for involvement in the robbery.
Did anyone who worked late nights in Hanover around 1998 see or hear anything that could shed more light on what happened that night?
