William Robert Gray, 48, was found shot to death in his Germantown, Maryland, apartment on November 9, 1990. He had been shot in the chest and neck with a pistol. At the time he had recently separated from his wife, Josephine Gray, and was in the process of removing her as beneficiary on his life insurance policies.
Investigators focused on Josephine and her housemate, Clarence Goode. Josephine had been linked to earlier suspicious deaths involving former husbands; her first husband, Norman Stribbling, was found shot to death in 1974, and she and William Gray had at one point been charged with conspiracy in Stribbling’s death before those charges were dropped. Despite being a suspect in William Gray’s killing, Josephine collected over $54,000 from his life insurance policies.
What new leads or records might help clarify who arranged or carried out the shooting of William Gray?
