On the night of September 18, 2022, a domestic dispute in Stony Point, New York, ended in gunfire. Jason Colwell, 47, was shot in the chest and found dead inside a home on Mott Farm Road after he reportedly went there around 11:30 p.m. looking for his wife, who had left their Garnerville residence earlier that day and was staying with a friend.

The resident who confronted Colwell, 21-year-old Javier Medina Jr., remained at the scene; three women and four children who were elsewhere in the house were unharmed. Police recovered the shotgun used in the shooting, and Medina was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and held without bail at the Rockland County Jail. The Stony Point Police Department and Rockland County authorities conducted an extensive investigation involving witness interviews and analysis of video and cell phone data.

What information about that evening or the people involved might help explain how the confrontation escalated to deadly force?
