On a summer day in August 1979, 39-year-old Thomas George Feller and his son Christopher left for a fishing trip in China Poot Bay near Homer, Alaska. Their canoe was reported overdue, and on August 10, 1979 the overturned vessel was found in the bay. A search was launched and, on August 11, Christopher’s body was recovered.

Despite continuing search and rescue efforts along the waters and shoreline, Thomas was never located. At the time he was described as a 39-year-old Caucasian man, 6 feet tall, about 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, an orange shirt, a blue and black plaid wool jacket, black rubber boots, an orange life jacket, a gold wedding band and a silver necklace.

The disappearance is officially listed as an overdue fishing trip with the canoe found capsized and the son recovered. Does anyone with memories of Homer or China Poot Bay in August 1979 have information that could help explain what happened that day?
