On the afternoon of March 24, 2021, 25-year-old David Bliss Jr. of Shirley was shot on a busy downtown Port Jefferson street and later died at St. Charles Hospital. The shooting happened about 3:35 p.m. in front of 122 Main Street; responding officers found Bliss on the ground with a gunshot wound and he was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Eyewitnesses said Bliss had been involved in an argument with individuals in a car just before the shooting, and the attack appeared targeted rather than random. Within days police arrested 19-year-old Joseph Garcia of Port Jefferson Station and charged him with second-degree murder. Investigators relied on eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage that reportedly captured Garcia shooting Bliss and leaving in a vehicle; additional footage from Setauket, about 10 minutes later, reportedly showed Garcia with a firearm and making admissions about the shooting.

Very little is known publicly about Bliss beyond his age and hometown and how his mother described him. Does anyone have information about that afternoon on Main Street or the moments leading up to the shooting?
