On the evening of October 27, 2020, 27-year-old Javon Merrill was fatally shot in Yonkers, New York. The shooting occurred at about 9:35 p.m. as Merrill was exiting the Triangle Deli on Ashburton Avenue. Two people approached outside the deli and one fired a single shot that struck Merrill in the chest; he collapsed and was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
Yonkers Police and the Westchester County Department of Laboratories and Research investigated the killing. Detectives reviewed video surveillance of the shooting, collected DNA evidence and interviewed witnesses. Investigators identified a suspect believed to have family ties in Yonkers and said the shooting may have been related to a prior dispute involving gang members. A sweatshirt discarded by the suspect after he fled reportedly contained his DNA.
Did anyone in Yonkers recognize the clothing or the individuals seen on the surveillance footage, or have information about the dispute that led to this killing?
