On August 23, 2020, 21-year-old Darien Brydie, a visitor from Illinois, was fatally shot while sitting in a car in the parking lot of the Nyack Plaza apartment complex on Hudson Avenue in Nyack, New York. The shooting occurred at about 8:24 p.m. Friends drove Brydie to Montefiore Nyack Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities identified an 18-year-old who had been in the car with Brydie as the person who fired a loaded 9mm handgun from the rear passenger seat; the bullet passed through the front passenger seat and struck Brydie. That person turned himself in the day after the shooting and was arrested on charges including second-degree manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. He later pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and was sentenced in February 2022.
If anyone in Nyack that evening saw the car, the people involved, or has information about what happened in the parking lot, please come forward.
