Eighteen-year-old Tyshawn Q. Daniels was shot and killed just a short distance from his home in Cohoes, New York, on June 30, 2020. The shooting happened around 2:15 p.m. at the corner of Lansing and Schuyler streets; Daniels was struck twice in the chest and died on the operating table at Albany Medical Center Hospital nearly two hours later. He was a recent graduate of Cohoes High School, class of 2019, and played on the basketball team.
A street memorial appeared at the scene as friends and community members left mementos including his Cohoes High School basketball jersey. Investigators canvassed the neighborhood seeking information and said they were looking for at least two males, a shooter and a driver. Authorities did not believe the motive was gang-related and were exploring possible connections to Troy, where the family had briefly lived.
Two men were later arraigned on felony weapons charges: Joseph Evans, 20, and an 18-year-old co-defendant whose name was withheld due to his age at the time. Both pleaded not guilty to second-degree weapons possession; the Albany County District Attorney said those charges reflected the investigation’s findings and no further charges were expected at that time. Does anyone have information about Tyshawn, his movements that afternoon, or who was involved?
