On the evening of December 7, 2019, 29-year-old Dejour Xavier Gandy was shot and killed inside a home on Shaffer Road in Newfield, New York. An occupant of the residence reported that three Black males with their faces covered forced entry, confronted Gandy while displaying firearms, and one of the men opened fire. The three fled the scene after the shooting.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation and offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of those involved. The department included the case in its 2019–2020 annual report and described the investigation as ongoing. As of late 2025 there have been no public announcements of arrests, charges, or convictions.
