Tavis Curtis, 32, a Black man from New Orleans, was shot late at night near the intersection of Tchoupitoulas Street and Peniston Street. Officers found him in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to a hospital and died from those injuries. Early reports described the incident as an aggravated battery by shooting.
Initial public information did not name a suspect, describe a motive, or announce an arrest. Investigators were working to piece together what happened and identify witnesses or evidence that could explain the shooting.
Those who knew Tavis lost a person with ties to family and community, and neighbors were left confronting the sudden violence in a familiar part of the city. If anyone saw or heard anything near Tchoupitoulas and Peniston that night, please share information with investigators.
