A confrontation between two groups of teenagers in Yonkers turned deadly on January 29, 2019, when 17-year-old Kasean Tuthill was shot near South Broadway and Vark Street. Witnesses and surveillance show the fight escalated after a handgun was produced; Tuthill suffered two gunshot wounds to the back and additional wounds to his hip and lower torso and was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Medical Center. An 18-year-old was also shot and survived.
Yonkers detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit investigated, using witness interviews and video to identify a suspect. The next morning police arrested 16-year-old Gavin Chisolm; he had sustained a stab wound to his thigh during the altercation and was charged as an adolescent offender with second-degree murder in Tuthill’s death and attempted second-degree murder for the other shooting.
Does anyone who was in the South Broadway and Vark Street area that afternoon have information about the fight or the people involved?
