On October 22, 2018, 28-year-old Joshua Niles was shot and killed in the driveway of his home in Sodus, New York. His girlfriend, Amber Washburn, was also shot and killed while sitting in a car; the couple’s 4-year-old son was inside a vehicle at the scene and was not harmed. A neighbor witnessed Niles being shot multiple times while standing in the driveway.

Investigators focused on Niles’s ex-girlfriend, Charlene Childers, and her husband, Timothy Dean, a former police chief from Sunray, Texas. The prosecution says the killings were driven by a bitter custody dispute over two children Niles and Childers shared; Niles had been awarded full custody months before the attack. Authorities allege Dean drove from Texas to New York to carry out the shootings and that another man, Bron Bohlar, helped rent a car used in the crime. Childers later testified she and Dean planned to kill Niles and that her motive was to regain custody of the children.

Does anyone have information about the days leading up to October 22, 2018, in Sodus or about movements of a rental vehicle linked to the case?
