Jeffrey Lee, 23, was shot and killed on October 12, 2018, on Dartmouth Street in Hempstead, New York. Lee was walking with his girlfriend near the intersection of Stewart Avenue shortly after noon when Savonn Dangerfield, then 22 and from Hempstead, approached after a reported perceived slight and shot Lee twice with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. The shooting happened steps from a Head Start preschool program. Lee was taken to NYU Langone Hospital Long Island and pronounced dead.
Lee’s mother, Yvonne Fletcher, mourned the loss of her only child and his four-year-old daughter was left without a father. The Nassau County Police Department launched a homicide investigation and named Dangerfield a primary suspect; he fled to Ohio and was arrested in Steubenville on May 6, 2019, then extradited to Nassau County and charged with second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
If anyone witnessed the shooting on Dartmouth Street or has information about the events leading up to that day, please come forward.
