Rudy Ray Rockett Sr, a 64-year-old white man from Redondo Beach, California, was last seen in the Ransomville area of New York on the afternoon of April 29, 2018. He had a flight scheduled from Buffalo Niagara International Airport that evening he never boarded, and his family reported him missing when he did not return or make contact.

Search efforts covered parts of Cattaraugus County and southern Erie County. On May 19 a body found in a ravine in Cattaraugus County was positively identified as Rockett’s. Authorities announced he had died of multiple gunshot wounds and reclassified the case as a homicide.

Investigators arrested Rockett’s stepson, Gregory A. Roy, alleging the shooting occurred during a car trip the two took on April 29. Roy, already in custody on another charge, was arraigned on the murder charge, refused to attend at first and was brought in under a drag order, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded without bail.
