On the morning of June 9, 2016, 37-year-old Damien Pinckney was shot once in the chest inside a Lawson Street residence in Hempstead, New York. The gunshot occurred at about 4:10 a.m.; Pinckney was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 5:59 a.m.
A 19-year-old man in the home also sustained a gunshot wound to the arm that was not life-threatening; he was treated at a hospital and released. Authorities arrested 20-year-old Laquasia Calloway of Hempstead in connection with the shooting. Prosecutors say the 9mm handgun discharged while Calloway was playing with it, and she was charged with criminally negligent homicide and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Bail was set at her arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead.
The case underscores the fatal consequences described by prosecutors as reckless firearm handling. Does anyone have information about Pinckney, the residence on Lawson Street, or the events that morning?
