A dispute that began inside the Seduccion Bar in Hempstead, New York, on New Year’s Day 2014 moved outside about 3:00 a.m. and ended with the death of 26-year-old Andre Graydon. The altercation involved Charles Smith and a friend on one side and another group of men on the other. According to accounts, Smith produced a .40 caliber handgun and fired 11 shots as Graydon tried to run away. Graydon was hit once in the leg, taken to a local hospital, and pronounced dead.

Charles Smith left New York for Virginia after the shooting and was captured by federal authorities on January 30, 2014, then returned to New York to face charges. On January 25, 2017, Smith pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and received an 18-year prison sentence.
