On October 20, 1981, Peter M. Paige, 49, was killed while working as a Brink’s guard at the Nanuet Mall in Nanuet, New York. Paige and fellow guards were loading cash into an armored truck when a group of heavily armed assailants opened fire with M16 rifles. Paige was struck multiple times in the chest and died at the scene; colleagues Joseph Trombino and James Kelly were wounded. The robbers escaped with $1.6 million.

Investigators linked the attack to a planned robbery carried out by members of the Black Liberation Army and the Weather Underground who were operating with the May 19th Communist Organization. The probe produced a large manhunt and prosecutions that resulted in the arrest and conviction of several people for their roles in the robbery; one suspect was killed in a shootout with police.

If anyone knew Peter Paige, worked at the mall that day, or has information about the robbery and those involved, please share what is known.
