Kevin Ramirez, 37, of Rosamond, California, was found dead just after 6 a.m. on November 11, 2022, in the 3300 block of Sierra Highway. Deputies pronounced him dead at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body; investigators determined the shooting occurred two nights earlier, on November 9, outside the Rosamond Palms Motel.

Surveillance from the motel shows Ramirez arguing with his girlfriend, Gabriela Isabel Martinez, around 11:11 p.m. The footage and a motel employee’s statement indicate Martinez waved and at one point pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at Ramirez. Video taken later that night shows a muzzle flash around 11:30 p.m. and afterward only one person leaving the area; Ramirez’s body was later located where the flash was seen.

Martinez was arrested on November 14, 2022, on a murder warrant and booked on a first-degree murder charge. Investigators reported she gave conflicting accounts, first saying she shot Ramirez in self-defense and later claiming the gun fired accidentally when Ramirez tried to take it from her and that he had intended to kill himself.

Did anyone see Ramirez or the couple on the motel property that night who hasn’t already spoken to investigators?
