Alexander Montero Pille, 28, of Arroyo Grande was shot and died after being taken to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital on November 4, 2022. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting stemmed from an altercation between occupants of two vehicles; investigators now say the initial story that it was a road rage incident was fabricated.

Detectives determined the shooting actually occurred in the Lopez Lake area of rural Arroyo Grande and that the people who transported Pille to the hospital were involved in the incident. In February 2023 the Sheriff’s Office arrested 22-year-old Daniel Jacobo of Oceano, charging him with involuntary manslaughter, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and making a false crime report. Two other men were implicated: 21-year-old Alexis Tapia pille (also listed as Alexis Tapiapille), of Oceano, faced accessory and false report charges pending arraignment, and 21-year-old Marc Anthony Ramos Perez of Mexico remained at large.

Few public details explain who was present at Lopez Lake or what prompted the fight. If anyone knew Alexander, was at or near Lopez Lake that night, or has information about the people involved, please come forward.
