Isamaeli Mataafa, 29, a ministry student at the Pacific School of Religion and a youth pastor and mentor in the Samoan community in San Lorenzo, was fatally shot on October 8, 2022, in Berkeley, California. He was one of four people shot after a fight broke out in the early morning on Telegraph Avenue near the UC Berkeley campus; he was the only victim who died.

Berkeley police say the altercation involved multiple suspects. On October 28, 2022, three people were arrested: Andy Gutierrez-Rebollo, 24, and Michael Monrroy-Ramos, 23, were charged with murder and attempted murder, and Jessyca Monrroy, 31, was booked as an accessory to the crime. Investigators recovered several firearms, including un-serialized ghost guns.

Mataafa is remembered by his community and school for his ministry work and commitment to social issues. Does anyone have information about the events that night or knew Eli and can help fill in what happened?
