On September 24, 2022, 41-year-old Jesus Galindo was shot and killed while sitting in his car with his children in the 1800 block of Sapphire Lane in Winterhaven, California. Family members said the group had been returning from a shopping trip when the attack occurred. First responders from the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and the Quechan Police Department performed life-saving measures before Galindo was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he later died. His 20-year-old son was shot multiple times, survived, and has since been discharged from the hospital.

A 22-year-old suspect, Bishap Laurenzana of Yuma, was arrested two blocks from the scene after witnesses provided descriptions. He faces charges including murder and attempted murder and is being held in the Imperial County Jail. The motive has not been released and the investigation remains ongoing. Galindo’s family and the community have marked the site with flowers and candles.
