Michael Green was 36 and a devoted father of three when he was shot and killed on a Gentilly sidewalk in New Orleans on the afternoon of September 5, 2014. An unknown assailant approached and opened fire, striking Green multiple times; he was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.

Family remembered him as a family man who had been looking forward to a barbecue that evening; the gathering became a vigil after his death. The New Orleans Police Department canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and evidence and urged anyone with information to come forward.
