Jonathan Santillano, 37, of Sylmar was killed on August 3, 2022, in Panorama City after coming to the aid of people involved in a three-car collision near Parthenia Street and Tobias Avenue. While the parties were exchanging information, an unknown assailant opened fire, wounding four people; Santillano, who reportedly was not part of the crash but had come to help, was pronounced dead at the scene despite Los Angeles Fire Department efforts.

Investigators identified 37-year-old Luis Enriquez Hernandez as a suspect and linked him to a Panorama City gang. Hernandez fled the scene; surveillance later showed him running on foot. He was located and arrested at a residence in Spring, Texas, and was charged with murder and attempted murder. The shooting left a growing memorial at the site and prompted community concern about gang violence.
